There’s no shortage of amazing travel photos–amateur and professional–being shot around the world, especially with the increasing number of travelers globe-trotting with digital cameras rather than expensive film cameras.
But someone’s got to claim the title of the best travel photographer of the year, and this year, that person is Darwin Wiggett of Canada. Wiggett, a professional landscape and nature photographer, impressed a panel of judges–comprised of photo editors from Conde Nast Traveller and Marie Claire– with his hauntingly beautiful but lonely photographs.
Wiggett won best overall travel photographer, but our own Lola Akinmade, travel writer, photographer, and editor of Matador Goods, was shortlisted in the TPOTY’s Life category.
If you haven’t already seen Lola’s incredible gallery of photos–shot in locales as diverse as Sweden, Nigeria, Peru, and Cambodia– you can visit it by clicking here.
