The Straight Talk Express may have lost a wheel, but don’t worry.

McCain won’t need to pimp his ride: he’s got 13 cars to back him up.

According to an investigative report conducted by Newsweek last month, the McCains own 13 cars, while the Obamas own… wait for it… ONE.

To be fair, the McCain family is a bit bigger than the Obama family, and Obama’s daughters aren’t yet driving age, but still, do the McCains really need all these cars?

Among the cars in the McCain fleet:

2005 Volkswagen convertible:

and 3 200 NEV Gem electric vehicles

And the Obamas’ vehicle of choice?

a Ford Escape Hybrid.

I can't wait for this election to be OVER. All of the blogs I've subscribed to are talking irrelevant rubbish. Isn't this a travel network?? There are those of us out there in the Internet who are not Americans you know…

Benny- Thanks for sharing your opinion. You're right, Matador is a travel network. But because travel, like the presidency (of any country) affects so many other aspects of our lives, we're interested in other news, too–hence, the news blog. Matador also cares about sustainability: political, environmental, social, and economic: and having 13 cars is not very sustainable.

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I subscribe to all Matador articles. Madatorpulse is about travel related news. Some guy (no matter how "important" he may be) having 13 cars is not news. I'd expect to see an article like this on Digg, not Matador. By the way this is nothing against Julie or her writing; I've read her other articles and have found them always extremely stimulating, but I just find the subject absolutely irrelevant for this site. I always find articles on this site intellectually stimulating, interesting or amusing, but lately this consistency has been broken thanks to this site being used as a means of promoting pro-Obama anti-McCain propaganda. I have seen Obama talk and due to his attitude towards international relations, I hope he wins, but is hearing more reasons the other guy is an idiot really necessary? Given the kind of philosophies most people in this community have (liberal etc.) I imagine their opinion of who to vote for is already set. We don't need more convincing from this network! And as I said before, we're not all Americans! Given the sustainability argument against having 13 cars, can you honestly suggest that we should expect to see similar arguments for random movie celebrities etc. abusing the environment suddenly appearing on this site? I seriously doubt it. It feels like the site is just being used as another means of propaganda. I'm seriously tempted to turn off my feed to the site for the next 3 weeks simply because of repetition of articles like this and that would be such a pity for all the good content I'd have to miss out on between Obama-is-great-McCain-sucks reminders… Sorry if my comments sounds harsh. We shouldn't complain when such amazing good content is given to us for free, but using the site to repeatedly voice one-sided political beliefs goes against the kind of open-mindedness our community is all about. Just my two cents…

I don't think anyone needs 13 vehicles. I feel like the US presidential campaign has completely forgotten the most important debate…the environment. I think the issue that deserves the most attention, is being completely ignored. Not only is this issue important in the US, but it affects the rest of the world. Instead of arguing about why we are in Iraq, why don't they outline their plans for the environment.
