Grim news from Zimbabwe:
The leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, who recently entered into a power-sharing agreement with despot Robert Mugabe, has been injured in a car accident.
His wife, Susan Tsvangirai was killed in the crash.
This BBC story notes that Zimbabwe has no divided highways and that accidents are common, but considering the dark history of Mugabe opponents turning up dead or wounded, it’s hard — with early reports lacking much detail — to view this as strictly coincidence.
Tensions had been ratcheted up between the two factions of the “unity government” since the arrest of MDC politician Roy Bennett on the same day that the new government was formed.
More to come, stay tuned!

Here's the latest: ” target=”_blank”>http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7930126.stm Word has it the truck that hit them was USAID-affiliated, carrying AIDS supplies. So it could turn out to be a grotesque/tragic coincidence. Man, what are the odds, though?
