Five Matador contributors are honored for their travel writing.

The winners of two writing contests were announced this week, and there was a strong showing of Matadorians among the awardees.

MatadorU student and contributor Alyssa Martino tied for third place in Transitions Abroad’s 2010 Narrative Travel Writing Contest. Her winning essay, “Finding Refuge in Giving,” is a reflection on her experiences in three very different places–Rome, Tunisia, and Mohawk Valley, New York–and the similarity of the lessons that she learned there.

MatadorGoods editor Lola Akinmade and contributors Erin Byrne, Darrin DuFord and Shelley Seale all won prizes in the 2009 Solas Awards, sponsored by Travelers’ Tales.

Congratulations to all of you!
