…and they’re off!

Awhile back I wrote about my cousin Sam and his buddy Peter, who’ve been blogging about their preparations for a major motorcycle trip.

They’ll be riding from Cairo to Cape Town this summer, raising money for a great little malaria prevention charity, Spread The Net.

Well, the day has (almost) arrived: Sam and Peter have arrived in Cairo, and are just waiting for the bikes to clear customs in the nearby port, Alexandria.

Be sure to check out their blog and stay tuned – this promises to be an adventure worth following along with!

Cheers! As someone getting ready to set off on a -cycle trip of my own (bi-, not motor-), I raise my glass. Can't wait to follow along with their journey.

I'm actually headed to your homeland, a 5-week tour around NS, PEI, and NB. Just for fun, unfortunately–nothing as noble as raising money for an organization like Spread the Net.

Eva- I thought I'd checked out their website awhile back, but I guess I didn't. Just visited and… wow! More than $17,000 already raised! And wow! What a nice guy Sam is… always giving props to other people who have helped on the journey, giving recommendations for the guys who've helped equip the bikes, etc. What a nice cousin you have!

Oooh, sounds great! Let me know if you want any Halifax/Nova Scotia recs… I lived in Hali for 4 years and loved every minute.

Yes, ladies, and he's single, too! :) Julie – Agreed, it's a pretty cool trip they're planning. I'm really, really excited to see how it goes. Remind me to tell you more about Sam sometime – he's a bit of an inspiration. Just back from a civilian posting in Afghanistan, has worked in Zimbabwe and Nigeria, and when I was little he was never stingy with the piggy-back rides. :D

Eva, thanks so much for the offer. I appreciate it. Any ideas for cheap lodging in Halifax?
